Winter Solstice

This is the first post of my Wheel of the Year project. I am following the sabbats. This is about Winter Solstice/Yule Winter solstice traditionally was a holiday to celebrate the returning of the light although funny enough is the shortest day of the year! In Celtic/Pagan times, all the fires of the village was smudged except the community fire, which families would take home a log to their home to bring back warmth. Fire was sacred, because fire meant survival during the coldest months. This year I was joined by friends to celebrate with a "Feast" and a Ritual. We had a large pot luck with homemade goodies with wine and ale. The Ritual included the burning of the yule log. After welcoming in the light, we had a party and celebrated our lives with music, ale/beer/wine, drumming, and singing. Below are a few pictures of our party. Jennine (pre-party!)
