Imbolc also known as St. Brigid's Day, Groundhog's Day, or Candlemass Typically celebrated on Feb. 2nd. It is exactly 6 weeks prior to Spring Equinox. Fire and purification are an important aspect of this festival. Brigid is the goddess of poetry, healing and smithcraft. As both goddess and saint she is also associated with holy wells, sacred flames, and healing. The lighting of candles and fires represents the return of warmth and the increasing power of the Sun over the coming months. (Nora Chadwick) We used soy wax and recycled wax in plastic bags brought to a boil until reduced to liquid then put in glass containers with essential oils and different flowers, etc. I found in doing this candle making a realization in how much time goes into making them first off and how much fun it was making beautiful candles. I enjoy burning my candles because I am reminded of the love and warmth that was involved with making them. To represent this holiday we made candles. Diane outside in...
